The BMW Ultimate Drive® took place May 12, 2008 at BMW of El Paso and was a huge success! Thank you to all participants, donors, volunteers and BMW of El Paso. We look forward to seeing you in 2009!

Try It on for the Cure® took place on Sunday, April 30, 2008 at Coldwater Creek at Cielo Vista Mall. The event included a breakfast and a special Survivor Fashion Show from 12:00pm - 3:00pm. Coldwater Creek, a National Series Sponsor of Komen Race for the Cure®, donated $1 to the El Paso Affiliate for every shopper who tried on clothing. In addition, they donated 10% of the merchandise sales to the El Paso Affiliate.

The El Paso Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® would like to thank all 2008 Participants, Survivors, Sponsors, Teams, Partners, Volunteers and Fort Bliss for an excellent event. On March 27, 2008, Senator Shapleigh honored the El Paso Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure with the “Adelante Con Ganas” Award. Every month, Senator Shapleigh awards one or more persons who have made an extraordinary commitment to service, family and community. This month’s honoree, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, celebrates 16 years in El Paso and has contributed over $2.2 million dollars to the fight against breast cancer since their inception. The El Paso Affiliate was honored for attracting 13,500 participants to the Komen El Paso Race for the Cure® on February 17, 2008 and for their involvement in outreach and educational programs throughout El Paso and for their active assistance in passing Proposition 15!

Cut for the Cure™ took place on Sunday, October 14th at Jacqui Hair Salon. The event raised over $8,000! Thank you to all participants, donors, volunteers and Jacqui Hair Salon for such a great success. We look forward to seeing you at Cut for the Cure™ in October 2008.

On Wednesday, July 25th, the El Paso Affiliate teamed up with Univision Channel 26 during their 5:00 newscast. During 26 A Su Lado (On Your Side) segment, the news featured information about breast cancer and interviewed Maria I. Sanchez, Komen's Outreach Manager. The anchors directed their viewers to call Channel 26 during 5-7 p.m. to ask questions of our bilingual volunteers (John Payne, Maria Sanchez, Carmen Gonzales, Bobby Murillo, Velia Minjarez, Imelda Garcia and Luis Loya). In two hours, they answered more than 350 calls! Our staff has answered an additional 150 calls over the next week. A big thank you to all who volunteered and who are assisting us in getting that important message out to our community!

On Sunday, May 20th from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., Barragan’s Salon & Spa hosted the seventh annual Beauty for the Cure™. With all proceeds benefiting the El Paso Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, participants received a haircut (no style), manicure and chair massage.

Fashion for the Cure took place on Saturday, February 17th from 8 am-10 am at Coldwater Creek at Cielo Vista Mall. The event featured several wardrobing sessions, drawings for give-aways and a 10% discount for all customers. Coldwater Creek, a National Komen Race for the Cure Series Sponsor, donated 10% of all proceeds from the event to the El Paso Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Golf for the Cure, sponsored by KISS FM, Shamaley Ford and C&R Distributing, took place on Friday, August 18th at Painted Dunes. The event raised approximately $15,000 for the fight against breast cancer. The tournament featured lunch, dinner provided by Cappetto's, golf shirts and outstanding prizes for each team!
